Applications are invited for PHD/MTECH/MS (BY RESEARCH) Programme 2025-26-1 Semester at the Department of Chemical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur.

Degree Department General Requirements
PhD in Engineering Chemical Engineering (i) A Master's degree in Engineering with marks/CPI not below the specified minimum.
or
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science (4-year programme) with a minimum of 75 percent marks/7.5 CPI and a valid GATE score (the requirement of GATE score is waived for candidates with Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science (4-year programme) from the centrally funded technical institutes (CFTIs)).
or
A Master's degree in Science or an allied area while satisfying each of the following three criteria:
(a) a minimum of 65 percent marks/6.5 CPI in the Master's degree,
(b) first division in bachelor's degree, and
(c) Valid JRF/GATE score.
or
(ii)A valid GATE score is required for the candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, except in the case of candidates with Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Science (4-year programme)from the centrally funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs). The candidates with Master’s degree in Science must either have a valid GATE score or must have qualified for/in JRF/NET.
Master of Technology (MTech) Chemical Engineering (i) A Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science (4-year programme) or a Master's degree in Science with marks/CPI not below the specified minimum.
or
(ii) A valid GATE score is required for admission to the MTech programme in the case of regular (non-sponsored) candidates. The requirement of GATE score is waived off for the candidates with the B Tech/BS (Four Year) degree from IITs with a minimum overall CPI of 6.5 and a minimum CPI of 8.0 in the last two years in B Tech/BS (Four Year).
MS (By Research) Chemical Engineering (i) A Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science (4-year programme) or a Master's degree in Science with marks/CPI not below the specified minimum.
or
(ii) A valid GATE score is required for admission to the MTech programme in the case of regular (non-sponsored) candidates. The requirement of GATE score is waived off for the candidates with the B Tech/BS (Four Year) degree from IITs with a minimum overall CPI of 6.5 and a minimum CPI of 8.0 in the last two years in B Tech/BS (Four Year).

Indian Candidates:

3. Students who are in the final year of their programme (likely to finish the programme by July 27, 2025) may also apply and secure provisional admission for the session commencing in July 2025 (2025-26-I Semester).
4. Financial support (Institute Assistantship/Scholarship) will be provided to non-sponsored PhD, MTech and MS (By Research).
5. Those employed in industry or a college/university/institute may apply for admission as sponsored, external or part-time candidates. Withdrawal from the Programme:

1. The last date of withdrawal from the programme (with Rs 1000/- deduction) is July 14, 2025. If withdrawal is received after aforesaid date then the deduction will be as per institute norms.
2. Refund processing will be taken up after August 20, 2025. Refund may take up to 21 working days.

Financial Assistantships:

1. Financial support (in the form of Institute Assistantship) is available to the regular (non-sponsored/ non part time/ non external) students of MTech, MS (By Research), MDes and PhD Programmes.
2. The student is expected to carry out the assigned duties during the programme. Mtech and MS (By Research) students are currently entitled to a monthly assistantship of Rs. 12400/- for 8 hours of work per week. For PhD students the corresponding financial support amounts to Rs. 37000/- for the first two years, and thereafter, it is raised to Rs. 42000/- for another three years.
3. Students may also avail financial assistantship from external funding agencies (such as UGC/CSIR/NBHM/DBT/ICAR/ICMR/PMRF etc.).
4.In addition to the above, several attractive fellowships from Industry/DAE are also available.
