- First find out where the problem is that is whether it is in your room / lab only or the entire block / building.
For that check the next rooms / labs nearby and the next blocks / buildings. - If the problem is for the entire block / building then the switch is not functioning, otherwise the problem is with your room's / lab's connection.
- The complaint has to be raised to the Network Group in CC.

- Select your Hostel.
- Then, Select your Block.
- Select your Room Number.

A. Configuration Settings for Windows Platform:
- Right click Network Neighborhood
- Click on Properties
- Click on Configuration
- Select TCP/IP fast Ethernet
- Click Properties
- Specify IP, Gateway, Subnet Mask and DNS.

B. Configuration Settings for Linux Platform :

- Click on Advanced Settings.
- In exceptions, add *.iitk.ac.in; 172.*; localhost; 127.0.0.1 .
In Mozilla:

We do not normally restrict access into or out of our network. This reflects both the traditional openness of the academic environment, and our opinion of where security efforts give the best return.
However we restrict the access from your machine to Internet and vice-versa by using Firewalls and also blocks porn sites.

Note:
The password change is effective immediately for the purpose of logging into PCs and servers, but the password change may propagate to mail server and proxies in the next half an hour or upto an hour . In this period, the old password will continue to work on these services.
Answer :
- Your password should not more than 8 characters.
- Passwords based on dictionary words, names, proper nouns, etc. are the easiest to crack.
- Even if you make some letters capital, or spell the word in the opposite order, it does not help.
- Concatenating two small words is of no use either.
- Also any regular sequence of keystrokes is of no use.
Like asdfgh can be cracked in seconds. - A good password will have at least one small case letter, one capital case letter, one digit, and one special character (like punctuation marks, $, %, &, etc.).
Note: Please note that '@', ':', ' * ' and '#' give problems on some systems, so these three are best to avoid.
