Prof. Manas K Ghorai's group has developed a new synthetic route to chiral 3-substituted indolines, which provides to a wide range of chiral indolines in excellent yields (99 %) and enantiomeric excess (99% ee). Professor Manas K. Ghorai has been elected as a Fellow of National Academy of Sciences, India (FNASc). This prestigious Fellowship is in recognition to his seminal contributions in developing concepts of memory of chirality, along with Lewis acid catalyses of activated aziridines and azetidines, via SN2 ring opening, to afford chiral intermediates for the synthesis of natural products.
Prof. Pradyut Ghosh, Department of Inorganic Chemistry, Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, Kolkata, has been selected for the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize 2015 in Chemical Sciences. Prof. Ghosh did his PhD in Department of Chemistry, Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, in 1998 under Prof. P. K. Bharadwaj.
