Call for Walk-in Interviews for PhD admission Programme (July 2024) at the Department of Sustainable Energy Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur:


Applications are invited for PhD admission to July 2024 semester in the following PhD programme(s) via walk-in interview (online mode) at the Department of Sustainable Energy Engineering (SEE): Degree/Admissions: PhD Sustainable Energy Engineering

Dates & links:

  • Deadline for submitting applications: 28th June, 2024
  • Notification of interviews to the shortlisted candidates: 29th June
  • Interviews to be held (via online mode): 01st July

**Note: The candidates who did not qualify in recent PhD admission interviews will not be allowed in this walk-in interview round.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • The eligibility conditions given below are the absolute minimum. The department may prescribe any requirements over and above.
  • The specified minimum marks/CPI (Cumulative Performance Index), referred to in subsequent sections, implies a minimum of 55 percent marks / 5.5 (on a 10-point scale) as long as it is not less than the minimum pass marks/CPI; otherwise, the specified minimum marks/CPI implies the minimum pass marks/CPI.

PhD in Engineering Sustainable Energy Engineering (i) A Master's degree in Engineering with marks/CPI not below the specified minimum.
or
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science (4-year programme) with a minimum of 75 percent marks/7.5 CPI and a valid GATE score (the requirement of GATE score is waived for candidates with Bachelor's degree in Engineering from the centrally funded technical institutes (CFTIs)).
or
a Master's degree in Science or an allied area while satisfying each of the following three criteria:
(a) a minimum of 65 percent marks/6.5 CPI in the Master's degree,
(b) first division in bachelor's degree, and
(c) Valid JRF Score or GATE score.
(d) BSc/MSc students need to have Math/Stat as a subject in either Bachelor's and Master's.

Financial Assistantships: Financial support (in the form of Institute Assistantship) is available to the regular (non-sponsored) students of the PhD programme amounting to Rs. 37000/- for the first two years, and thereafter, it is raised to Rs. 42000/- for another three years. The student is expected to carry out the assigned duties during the programme to maintain eligibility for continued financial support.

Students may also avail financial assistantship from external funding agencies (such as UGC/CSIR/NBHM/INSPIRE/DBT/ICAR/ICMR/PMRF etc.).

In addition to the above, several attractive fellowships from Industry/DAE/MNRE are also available.

  3. Students who are in the final year of their programme (likely to finish the programme by July 26, 2024) may also apply and secure provisional admission for the session commencing in July 2024 (2024-25-I Semester).
  4. Financial support (Institute Assistantship/Scholarship) will be provided to non-sponsored PhD students.

Withdrawal from the Programme:

  1. The last date of withdrawal from the programme (with Rs 1000/- deduction) is July 12, 2024. If withdrawal is received after the aforesaid date the deduction will be as per institute norms.
  2. Refund processing will be taken up after August 15, 2024. Refund may take up to 21 working days.

Indian Candidates:

  • Indian Nationals can apply only through online mode of application. The deadline for application in online mode is June 28, 2024 (Friday), 05:00 PM. Please note that this is a hard deadline. No further extension would be made. Go to "Google form Link".
  • PhD applicants may arrange for two letters of reference as well. For this purpose, the names of the referees along with their e-mail addresses are to be provided by the candidate at the online applications portal. The referees will be contacted electronically.
  • The application fee is Rs. 500 for General, EWS, OBC and OBC-NCL candidates and Rs. 250 for SC/ST and all DAP candidates.
  • Bank details for payment of application fees are given below. You are required to pay the fees and upload the online payment receipt of the same in the google form.
