Kolhapur, Maharashtra: The Kolhapur Innovation Challenge 2021 received over 600+ entries in its first-ever round of call for applications. Kolhapur Innovation Challenge was launched by Kolhapur Startup Mission, co-powered by the Startup Incubation and Innovation Centre, IIT Kanpur and Kolhapur Incubation Center (KIC), with the support of DY Patil Education Group. Kolhapur Startup Mission (KSM) will bring startups & innovators on the same platform as administrators for solving the civic issues in Kolhapur city. In the 3 rounds of selection process, a committee of experts have evaluated each solution from various parameters and 15 startups have been shortlisted from 60 entries shortlisted for the round-3.
KSM will award the selected startups & innovators up to INR 5.0 Lakhs to implement their technology and services in Kolhapur district through KIC. Each selected startup and innovator will be also get support from SIIC IIT Kanpur in the co-incubation program with KIC. In the current call for application, the focus areas are some of the most critical civic issues for Kolhapur - Water Management, Waste Management, Air Quality Management, Education, Public Health, E-governance, Agriculture, Mobility & Transportation. The call for applications was open from 15th January to 31st January, where any Indian startup & innovator could apply. In an overwhelming response to the call for application, Kolhapur Startup Mission received 600+ entries nationwide. Innovators pitched solutions grounded in civic tech, leveraging their expertise to address issues panning domains such as Mobility & Transportation, Water Management, and Waste Management. Innovations were pitched both by startups who already had a product or an implementable solution ready and student innovators with solutions at the ideation stage. After three rounds of the selection process, 15 best-suited projects have been selected for making the final presentation to a jury via video conferencing on 2 nd March. The names of winners will be announced on the same day. The result has been announced on KSM & SIIC's social media accounts.
