Kanpur, 19 September 2023: IIT Kanpur's staff team, IIT Kanpur A, emerged as the winners in the 2023 Kanpur Office League Volleyball Tournament organized by the Staff Gymkhana at IIT Kanpur. The team secured victory by defeating the DMSRDE (Defence Materials and Stores Research and Development Establishment) team in two straight sets. A total of eight teams from Kanpur participated in the tournament, including IIT Kanpur A, IIT Kanpur B, IIT Kanpur C, Field Gun Factory, OFC (Ordnance Factory Kanpur), DGQA (The Directorate General of Quality Assurance), HAL (Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd), and DMSRDE (Defence Materials and Stores Research & Development Establishment). The tournament was inaugurated by Prof. Kantesh Balani from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering and Prof. Indra Sekhar Sen from the Department of Earth Science. The winning and runner-up teams received awards from Prof. Aditya H Kelkar from the Deparment of Physics and Shri. Sarvendra Sachan, Secretary of the Kanpur District Volleyball Association. Shri. Alok Yadav was honoured with the award for the best player in the tournament. District Volleyball Association officials, namely Shri. Anil Sachan, Shri. Vijay Patel, and Shri. Suresh Yadav, were present during the event. The vote of thanks was proposed by Shri. Amit Dohre, the organizing secretary and coach of IIT Kanpur, and Prof. Chinmoy Kolay from the Department of Civil Engineering who is also the Captain of IITK-A.
