Kanpur, February 19, 2024: The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK) hosted a flower exhibition, a delightful showcase of nature's beauty. This exhibition, held each year to celebrate the arrival of spring. Prof. S Ganesh, Director of IIT Kanpur inaugurated the event. The flower exhibition was organized in two sections – first one category to the houses of the institute, and the second one category to the hostels, Director's residence and guest house. In the first category, about 800 pots were planted, in which the first prize was awarded to house no. 434 of Prof. Pradip Swarnakar, second prize was awarded to house no. 625 of Prof. Nandini Neelkantan, while the third prize was awarded to house no. 443 of Prof. J. G. Rao. In the second category, more than 1700 pots were planted in various categories, in which Director's Residence got first place, Hall 12 got second place and Hall 3 got third place. The judging of the flower show, conducted by the Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture & Technology kanpur, was presided over by retired professors. The institute’s nursery has Kalpavriksha, Camphor, Sandalwood, Rudraksha, and Viksha saplings and its herbal garden features Sarpagandha, Satavar, Karpari Tulsi, and Damvel. The exhibition displayed a diverse array of flora, including approximately 120 species of flowers, green leafy plants, cut flowers, vegetables, and fruits. Pansy, Ranunculus, Ladybird, Dog Flower, Primula, Cyclamen, and Nemesia were the key attraction among the visitors. Alongside the exhibition, the Women's Association at IIT Kanpur organized a fair featuring a puppet show, food stalls, art competition, and fun activities for children. The residents of the campus enthusiastically participated in the fair. This exhibition highlighted the institute’s core beliefs in nurturing a love for nature and horticulture among its community.
