The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur is known for its academic excellence and is often the firststop for undergraduate and post graduate student placements among top ranked industries and research organizations nationwide. IIT Kanpur witnessed another successful year in campus placements. Recruitment drive for the academic year 2020-21 will be held in two phases. Phase-1 of recruitments officially started on Dec. 1, 2020 and ended on Dec. 9, 2020 (total of 9 days). Whereas, in the last year, Phase-1 was closed on Dec. 13 (13 days). In Phase-1 placement season of IIT Kanpur, approximately 232 recruiters visited campus to hire students for full time employment. A total of ~ 45 top tier firms with 60 different profiles from various sectors visited campus for interviews on day 1, where an unprecedented 232 job offers were extended, and 203 of those were acceptedby IITKanpur students. Till day 9 (Phase-1) total of 821 offers were received, out of which 709 offers were accepted (including Pre-placement offers). Highest domestic package was offered at INR 82 lakhs per annum, whereas the highest international package was offered at INR 1.47 Cr per annum. Out of 19 international offers, 15 students have accepted their offers. Whereas, based on the hiring numbers, the top recruiter for placement season was Microsoft, which visited campus on day one and hired maximum students. Other top recruiters for the Phase-1 were Apple, Google, Qualcomm, EXL, Intel, Zomato, Amazon, Axis, Vmock, Sterlite, ICICI bank etc. Placement drive witnessed highest participation from coding and software firms (59%), whereas 18% core firms also strongly contributed. Around 50+ start-up firms (mainly software) were invited to hire at IIT Kanpur. Overall, Phase-1 was highly satisfying in terms of placements at IIT Kanpur despite the pandemic blues. The entire placement process was conducted online. A special contribution from CDAP (Cell for differently abled persons) at IIT Kanpur also pitched in by sensitizing their special needs to the recruiting firms beforehand. The entire process was overseen by the six ‘overall placement coordinators’ (viz. Sanket Gaggar, Himanshu Pandey, Raj Gohil, Rishu Katiyar, Vedanth Venkatakrishnan, & Bhavesh Loungani) along with the team of Assistant Coordinators, Department Placement Coordinators, along with the staff members (Mr. Amarendra Mohanty and Mr. Praveen Kumar) for achieving substantial placement numbers even during the current pandemic situation. |
