ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE AWARDS
|
The Institute recognizes the academic achievements of its students in the form of several academic excellence awards. These academic excellence awards are given at the end of each academic year based on the performance of the student in the previous academic year. Academic Excellence Awards are given to meritorious students of IIT Kanpur having a CPI of 8.5 and above in the previous academic year. Here CPI of the previous academic year (API) is computed solely for the previous academic year. Previous academic year includes summer courses of the previous academic year. A student who has failed in one or more courses in the last two regular semesters; or registers in a semester beyond the normal residency requirement is not eligible to receive the award. The total credits taken by the student in the previous academic year (as per the APEC report) should be greater than or equal to the number of minimum credits recommended by the department as per the course template for the previous academic year. The awards consist of a certificate of academic excellence and are given as follows.
-
Top 10% students of the first year UG batch are given the award based on their CPI at the end of 1st semester.
-
Top 10% students of each of the 2nd and 3rd year UG batches are given the award based on their past year API.
-
For the 4th year UG students in 4-year or 5-year programs (combined), the top 10% of each department are given the award based on their past year API.
-
For the 5th year UG students in 5-year program, the top 10% of each department are given the award based on their past year API. This award is to be given by the parent department.
-
For the M. Tech., MBA, M. Des., MS by Research and M.Sc. (2 year) program students, the top 10% of each department are given the award based on their past year API.
-
In addition, two global lists of students in the final year UG programs (one for 4-year program and one for 5-year program) are prepared after removing those students that have already received the award as per the departmental lists. Top 10% in each of the two global lists are also given the award subject to the minimum API criterion of 8.5. This award is to be given by the parent department for the 5-year program students.
-
This award shall not be given for any department having student strength of less than five.
