Prof. Rakesh Kumar Popli (1952 - 15 September 2007) was a faculty member in the Department of Physics at IIT Kanpur from 1981 to 1983.
He left his job at lIT Kanpur to work for the education and upliftment of the tribal population of India. He is a brilliant academician, was a passionate advocate of science popularization. He was instrumental in the establishment of Ekal Vidyalaya, a non-profit organization that aims to provide education to children in rural and remote areas of India. Additionally, he actively engaged in popularizing science through his writings.
Mrs. Rama Popli, wife of professor Rakesh Popli, is a specialist in elementary education for children with more than 40 years of experience in the field research, action research, and rural social development. She founded Kislaya Vidya Mandir, which later became an incubator for the creation of curricula for Ekal Vidyalaya. Through her non-profit organisation Panini foundation, she continues to contribute in the field of elementary education for children.
