About IIT Kanpur
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur was established by an Act of Parliament in 1959. On August 9, 1960, in borrowed buildings of the HBTI campus, IITK started with about 100 students studying for degrees in ChE, CE, EE, ME, MetE and the pure sciences. In 1963, the institute moved to its present location, on the Grand Trunk Road near the village of Kalyanpur in Kanpur district. The aim of the Institute is to provide meaningful education, to conduct original research of the highest standard and to provide leadership in technological innovation.
