Rolling Advertisement for Faculty Positions

Applications are invited from Indian nationals {including Persons of Indian Origins (PIOs) and Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs)} and foreign nationals for the posts of Assistant Professors, Associate Professors, and Professors.

Foreign national here means a person who does not have either an Indian passport or a PIO/OCI card. Foreign nationals can be offered a contractual appointment for up to five years. The appointment can be renewed thereafter.

Minimum Qualification: Ph.D. with first class or equivalent (in terms of grades) at the preceding degree in the appropriate branch, with a very good academic record throughout. In addition, for:
Professor: 10 years teaching/research/industrial experience of which at least 04 years should be at the level of Associate Professor in IITs, IISc Bangalore, IIMs, NITIE Mumbai and IISERs.

Associate Professor: 06 years Teaching/Research/Industrial experience of which at least 03 years should be at the level of Assistant Professor, Senior Scientific Officer/Senior Design Engineer.

Assistant Professor: Minimum three years Industrial/Research/Teaching experience, excluding, however, the experience gained while pursuing Ph.D.

For a fresh Ph.D., the position will be on contract basis for the first three years and will be regularized afterward. For those with three or more years of teaching/research/industrial experience regular appointment may be made.

Selection Process:
The following steps are adopted for the evaluation of the applicants.

Step 1: A group of faculty members of the concerned area of specialization gives its recommendation on the suitability of the candidates for a faculty position.

Step 2: The candidates recommended by the faculty group are called for a seminar.

Step 3: Recommendation letters are sought from the referees of these candidates who are identified after the seminar.

Step 4: The Department Faculty Advisory Committee (DFAC) shortlists the candidates on the basis of the application, faculty input, seminar, and referee comments.

Step 5: The shortlisted candidates are presented to the Institute Faculty Advisory Committee (IFAC) and are called for an interview.

  1. The pay carries all other allowances as admissible to a Central Government employee stationed at Kanpur.
  2. The benefits, such as HRA, LTC, medical reimbursement, transport allowance, children education allowance, contribution towards New Pension Scheme (NPS), reimbursement of telephone bills, book grants, research initiation grant (up to Rs 25 lakhs), financial support towards national and international conferences shall be permitted as per the Institute norms.
  3. The Institute also provides an additional top-up salary of Rs 25,000/- per month for the first three years of service to the newly joined faculty members. After three years of service, the faculty member(s) are eligible for Young Faculty Fellowship (open for faculty of age upto 40 years) providing a top-up salary of Rs.10,000/- per month for three years, and/or Faculty Chair positions providing a top-up salary of Rs 25,000/- per month for three years. Both the positions are based on performance.

  5. Higher initial pay is admissible to exceptionally qualified and deserving candidates.
  6. Mere eligibility will not entitle any candidate for being called for interview.
  7. Applicants who do not fulfill the minimum experience requirements may be offered an appointment on contract. The requirements of minimum qualification and/or experience may be relaxed in the case of candidates with outstanding credentials.
  8. An applicant not found suitable for higher positions may be considered for lower positions in the same area of specialization.
