Guidelines for submitting application for ethical clearance by the IAEC
Step 1: Submit a hard copy of the application to the office of the Member Secretary, IAEC. A soft copy of the application should also be submitted via email.

Please note that the IAEC normally meets twice in a year (September and March), therefore the application should be submitted at least 30 days in advance (i.e., by July 31 for the September meeting, and by January 31 for the March meeting)
While preparing the application please note the following:
- For animal experiments requiring the use of bio-hazardous substances, recombinant DNA/vaccine and/or samples from human origin, the study protocol should be first cleared by the Institute Bio-Safety Committee (IBSC) and/or the Institutional Ethics Committee for experimental involving human subjects (IEC) as applicable.
- Currently, the IAEC can only handle applications for experiments involving rat or mouse (we do not have housing facilities for other animals).
- The protocol should clearly mention the source of animals. CDRI, Lucknow is an approved source of these animals in the neighbourhood.
The application will be evaluated by the committee (and subject expert if required) and the applicant may be asked to furnish other documents if required.
Step 2: A meeting of IAEC will be scheduled and the date will be communicate to the applicant at least 20 days in advance. The applicant will be asked to present his/her proposal to the committee and a decision will be communicated to applicant within a week.
All applicants are advised to go through the guidelines given by the Committee for the Purpose of Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals (CPCSEA).
