Academic Background: Dr. Jayandharan G. Rao completed his PhD from Christian Medical College, Vellore. He completed his post-doctoral training at the Powell Gene therapy center, University of Florida, USA (2007-09). Subsequently he was a faculty of Christian Medical College, Vellore and joined the faculty of BSBE in October, 2014.
Research Interests: Our research program is focused on developing a state-of-art molecular medicine platform to address the unmet clinical needs for several monogenic human diseases (eg. hemophilia, retinal degeneration) and cancers (eg. hepatocellular carcinoma, leukemia). To achieve this, we interface at the basic biology of a virus (AAV) and its translational science; utilizing a variety of molecular, cellular and preclinical models. These efforts are directed towards developing cost effective and indigenous gene therapy strategies to treat patients with inherited disorders. |
