About AWC
The Animal Welfare Cell (AWC), IIT Kanpur, was constituted on 31st December 2018. The primary function of the cell is to create an enabling environment towards fulfilment of statutory requirements laid down by ‘Prevention of Cruelty against Animals (PCA) Act’, 1960.
The AWC consists of representatives drawn from different sections of Campus community - faculty, staff, and students.
The AWC will also work with local animal welfare organizations & Municipal Corporation for implementation of animal birth control program in the Campus. The AWC will also take up sensitization drives among the Campus community towards peaceful cohabitation with the Campus fauna.
Some of the initiatives that are under consideration are listed below-
- Sterilization drive for the stray dogs in the Campus
- Annual anti-rabies vaccination drive for the stray dogs in the Campus
- Invited talks by experts in the field of animal welfare
