It is needless to point out that there is an urgent need for many more such programs for imparting human values to all stakeholders of higher education system in the country.

I believe particularly university education is only focused on specialized knowledge and skills. It almost wholly neglects human values that are critical for harmonious living and effective application of knowledge to solve problems.
Perhaps the alarming feature of various kinds of conflicts that are increasingly being witnessed on campuses is an indicator of the incompleteness of the educational process.
To my mind at the heart of education must be an experiential understanding of self. It is this understanding that can give rise to an embedded self-confidence. No matter what be the area of specialized knowledge and skills, self-confidence is needed to apply the knowledge in the social setting.

Today higher education only focuses on development of specialized knowledge and skills. It does not draw attention to the limitations of disciplinary perspectives, knowledge systems and pedagogies.
Most importantly higher education today narrowly attempts only to prepare students for work but not for life.

Being at this position i have observed that there is a great need of education for Holistic Development in the youth of our country. I am sure during this conference we would be successful in developing the guidelines, content and methodology for imparting universal human values in higher education.
