Goal

To introduce the mathematical theory, modelling and computations of problems from Optics to researchers across India. As such this topic is fairly untouched by mathematicians and has several challenges and its solution will have direct influence on industry. This symposium will starts with a basic note on such problems and will also introduce the numerical concepts needed to solve such problems. Further, it will also provide a flavour of few applications which have been recently solved and have impact on industry.

Topics

  • Lecture 1: Basics of ray optics, 40 min.
  • Lecture 2: Inverse freeform design: reflector and lens equations, 40 min.
  • Lecture 3: Lie optics for imaging, 40 min.
  • Lecture 4: Numerical Methods for Optics
  • Lecture 5: DG Method for PDEs
  • Talk 1: Inverse methods for freeform design, 30 min.
  • Talk 2: DG methods for Liouville's equation of geometrical optics, 30 min.
  • Talk 3: Inverse methods for imaging. 30 min.
