The Language Programme was established in the early years of IIT Kanpur and acquired a more formal structure during the 1970s. For more than 50 years now, our wide variety of language courses have been helping students widen their intellectual horizons and get better integrated within an international working environment. The programme is organized by the Centre for Continuing Education of IIT Kanpur.

  • German

    Germany, positioned at the heart of Europe, is a confluence of science, art and philosophy. Additionally, the Germans are known for their discipline, punctuality and precision. Germany has always been known for its engineering precision and technological wizardry. Benz, BMW, Bosch, Daimler, Siemens and many more have made Germany the largest economy in all of Europe. In today’s socio-political landscape, Germany is proving to be a major stabilizing force; with a sensitive heart towards humanitarian and environmental causes.
    About 33% population of the European Union speaks German, including countries like Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Liechtenstein and Luxembourg, where it is the official language.
    It is therefore not surprising that the German language is one of the most fervently taught languages in the world today. Although misconstrued as a tough and hard-to-pronounce language, it is in fact a rather melodious one, with clear and strong intonations.
    You will learn the basics of the language along with songs, short films, group activities etc. Some interesting facts about Germany, Switzerland and Austria makes the learning enjoyable.

  • French

    FRENCH is spoken in many countries - not just in France! It is the official language in Switzerland, Belgium, Canada, Seychelles, Morocco, Ivory Coast - to name just a few. In fact, it is the only language spoken on all five continents.
    The French are very proud of their language and will immediately warm to you if you speak it - even if you make a few mistakes. Since there are no hard consonants in the French language, it is easy on the ear. It is a language of precision and musicality.
    At IIT Kanpur, we have a small French library which houses books, magazines, comics (yes, you can read Tintin and Asterix in French !) and CDs.
    Our aim is to teach you how to read, write and speak French. It is a language that will open up a host of opportunities - in the tourism industry, hotel management, airlines, international banks, Indo-French collaborations, teaching..... It will help you enjoy French literature and cinema, understand research papers in Mathematics. MBR

Online applications are invited for Registration to the Foreign Language Program at IIT Kanpur for the 2024-2025 academic sessions.

Admission Criteria:

Admission will be done purely on FIRST COME FIRST SERVED BASIS THROUGH ONLINE as per the following schedule.

Start date of submission online Application Form: 05:00 PM, June 03 ,2024 (Monday)
Last date for submission Online Application Form and Payment: 5:00 PM July 30, 2024 (Tuesday)

The Online classes of the FLP programme will begin on 5 August 2024.

Category wise Fees Structure:

IIT Kanpur Students Rs. 7000/- per year
IITK Employee Rs. 7000/- per year
IITK Wards Rs. 8260/- (including 18% GST) per year
Participants (Non- IIT Kanpur) Rs. 15000/- (including 18% GST)

Category wise Allocation of Seats:

From the total seats available 50% is reserved for IITK students, 10% for IITK employees/wards, and 40% is open to non-IITK applicants.



Qualification & Eligibility:

  • 1. For Level I courses, the minimum qualification is Class 10.
  • 2. For Level II courses, the minimum qualification is Class 10 and Level I in the relevant language.


Note:
1.The fees once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances.
2.Certificates will be awarded only to those candidates who qualify the exam.
3.Instructors will not be changed based on the preference of any candidate.
4.The certificate will be awarded only to those individuals who have passed the semester exams.
